Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

-William Ernest Henley

ANALYSIS OF THE POEM

The first stanza of the poem, the author gives an idea to the reader that he is somehow in a world full of misery but somehow despite of the authors situation, he still remember God and doesn't blame Him for his unfortunate life.

2nd stanza, despite of the unpleasant circumstances the author experiences, still, he may able to go on through out his life. Even in his worst experience he didn't seek for help or he didn't shed tears.
I don't believe that a person can still go on, can still continue his life with the hardship he experience. Let's face the fact that we are only human, and we cannot control a thing which is uncontrollable. The author can keep moving but no person can go on without shedding tears.

3rd stanza, The author states that even though wherever he is, still, not afraid on whatever will happen to him.
Past dark experiences of a person sometimes jump out to a person like a ghost and yet those bitter, sad momants wouldn't harm the author.

Lastly, the 4th stanza expresses that we shall be the captain of our own soul and our life. No other person can dictate you on what you are going to do in your own life. Being the captain means you are the one who is responsible for your success or failure, but yourself.

TEAM BUILDING

 TEAM BUILDING
  • Working as a team and as a team, we are working together.

The game was hard, under the sun, hot temperature but our team manage cooperate and we are united and able to finish the puzzle first.

LIKE A ROPE UNITY
The game was about the unity of the whole team. The team was all tied up in our ankle by a rope and the team will walk until the able to be in the finish line.
The game needs the cooperation of every group because one small move will have a great impact in the group. Unity was observed especially when walking in every step. We need to do counting to be able for us to have a rhythm in every step towards the finish line.

BLIND DRIVER ON A ZIGZAG ROAD

ANALYSIS ( The Last Judgement by KAREL CAPEK )

  • ·         The Genre of the last judgement is a short story.
  • ·         The Story is also a parable which gives the reader lesson based on the principle presented in the story.
  • ·         The characters are Ferdinand Kugler, which was a murderer. And
  • ·         The setting of the story was in heaven as when Ferdinand Kugler died and was preside by the judge and God as the witness of all His misdeeds.
  • ·         The story was stated in a third person point of view
  • ·         The theme of the story is judgement and punishment. Even little good thing or bad things you have done are taken account by God. He knows everything, and with our little misdeeds, there is a certain thing that will be punished to us.
  • ·         The story’s main conflict is a man to man. Which shows that the main character of the story (Ferdinand Kugler) was having a hard time to socialize with the people around him and how he will be able to solve certain problem without doing bad things to other people to suffice his need
  • ·         What the story wants to give to the reader is that God is a witness which any lawyer cannot argue with. In the story the presiding judge is a human and not God to give equal judgement.

ANALYSIS (Richard Cory by Edwin Alington Robinson)

  • ·         Richard Cory was a poem with 4 stanzas, 10 syllables per line and with an a-b-a-b rhyme pattern.
  • ·         Richard Cory was the main character of the poem, he was describe as a person who got it all. He was represented in the poem as every person wanted to be.
  • ·         The voice in the poem in describing the Richard Cory was sound a little bit proud of the good qualities and attainment of Richard Cory.
  • ·         The setting of the poem was not mentioned.
  • ·         The conflict was from man to himself. Richard Cory being seen as a perfect person by other was having a hard time in doing what other people expects him to do and so Richard Cory ended his life and from that we can also say that the conflict is also a man to man, which is seen in the other people expectation vs. Richard Cory.
  • ·         The poem of Edwin Robinson started by describing Richard Cory, how people see him, know that people want to be like him and any person would be willing to take the place of Richard Cory. But at the end of the poem Richard Cory, who had it all put a gun into his head and shot himself to death. The poem implies that there is no perfect person here on earth and it doesn’t always mean that a person is strong based on his outer appearance; try to look what’s inside of the person.

ANALYSIS (THE USE OF FORCE by William Carlos Williams)
  • ·         Based on the title “The Use of Force”, the main character of the story uses force to be able to do his job as a doctor.
  • ·         The literary piece uses first person point of view. The author was the one who narrates the story because he uses I, me, and my.
  • ·         The main character of the story is the doctor who was asked to diagnose the illness of a child. The character’s name was not mentioned but the author uses name as doctor, mother and daughter.
  • ·         The setting was on the kitchen area of the patient’s house. The setting was not described thoroughly by the author also the story the description of the characters.
  • ·         The style of the story was simply narrating to what happened to the main character. The character uses dialogue but we can see that the author doesn’t used (“”) quotation marks to highlight the exchanging of thoughts of the characters of the story.
  • ·         The conflict of the story is the “man to man” conflict; the main character had a conflict with his patient behaviour.
  • ·          The story also shows that the main character has also had a conflict with himself (man to himself conflict) which is showed in the story when the doctor fight his urge to do bad things to his patient.
